About Us - History

Established in the year 1995 by the Indian Army, at Hamirpur (Jammu & Kashmir), Pinewood School has been on the forefront of imparting quality education to children living along the Line of Control. This school has very humble beginning and at inception had only 30 students studying in two tents pitched up by the Indian Army. The founding team comprised of Maj Gen (Retd) KVS Lalotra, then Commanding Officer of GR, Hamirpur Battalion, Mrs Nandita Singh, wife of the Commanding Officer at Hamirpur (Then coordinator of Army School at Miran Sahib, Jammu) who came up to supervise the establishment for two months, Captain Amitabh Tewari, the Regimental Medical Officer of Hamirpur Battalion and Captain Sridharan, of Territorial Army (Physics Professor at Loyola Junior College, Pune). Over the years, this school has grown by leaps & bounds owing to the sincere & dedicated efforts of the Armymen & the generous funds provided under ‘OP SADBHAVANA.

On 03 Feb 99, the School was granted permission by the Jammu & Kashmir Education Board to run classes upto 5th standard.

On 23 April 2002 the School was recognized upto Class VII. During the period 2002-04, the office complex came up. In addition, two labs and two class rooms were also constructed.

In 2005, three additional class rooms were constructed. A well stocked library and a computer lab with 10 computers were also established. The Jammu & Kashmir Education Board gave recognition to School to run classes upto 10th standard.

In 2008-09, a Children Park and additional toilets for the staff and students of the School were constructed.

In 2009, permission has been sought from J&K board to upgrade the school to XII class. Auditorium cum Exam Hall was constructed and associated eqpt for running Eureka software was purchased under Op SADBHAVANA. A 30 KVA generator was also installed in School.

In 2014, a science museum was established by 15 BIHAR. Easy to understand working models of all science disciplines were displayed. GOC, Ace of Spades Division, inaugurated the museum on 28 Oct 2014. A new teachers room was also est in the school premises.

The School is now an integral part of OPERATION SADBHAVANA undertaken by the Indian Army for the welfare and upliftment of the local population and is managed by the Hamirpur Battalion under the supervision of the Bhimber Gali Brigade.
